Our story

Spaces designed for the way children actually learn.

MontiHaus was founded on a simple belief: the environment is the third teacher. We design Montessori-inspired spaces that invite independence, curiosity, and calm — for families, schools, and childcare centers.

Our mission

Our Mission

At MontiHaus Design Studio, our mission is to thoughtfully transform children's environments into beautiful, functional, Montessori-inspired spaces that encourage independence, confidence, curiosity, and meaningful learning.

We partner with families, educators, childcare providers, and schools to create intentional nurseries, bedrooms, playrooms, childcare centers, and classrooms designed from the child's perspective. By combining Montessori principles with purposeful interior design, we create prepared environments where children are empowered to explore, learn, and thrive.

We don't simply design spaces — we design environments that help children become capable, confident, and independent.

Our vision

Our Vision

Our vision is to make thoughtfully designed Montessori environments beautiful, practical, and accessible to more children, families, and learning communities.

We aspire to grow MontiHaus Design Studio into a trusted leader in Montessori-inspired interior design, recognized for transforming homes, childcare centers, and schools into purposeful environments that support the whole child.

Through intentional design, we envision a future where children's spaces are created not simply around how they look, but around how children learn, move, discover, develop, and experience the world.

Intentional Spaces. Inspired Childhoods.

Our Montessori philosophy

Our Montessori Philosophy

At MontiHaus Design Studio, we believe a child's environment plays an essential role in how they learn, develop, and experience the world around them. Inspired by the Montessori philosophy, we create thoughtfully prepared spaces that encourage independence, exploration, concentration, creativity, and confidence.

Montessori environments are intentionally designed from the child's perspective. Furniture, materials, organization, and everyday essentials are thoughtfully placed within reach, giving children opportunities to make choices, care for their surroundings, and participate independently in their daily routines.

We embrace the Montessori principle of "freedom within limits," creating spaces that offer children the freedom to explore while maintaining the order, simplicity, and structure they need to feel secure and successful.

Our approach emphasizes natural materials, purposeful organization, beauty, accessibility, and simplicity. Rather than overwhelming a space, we believe each element should have intention and contribute to the child's development or experience.

Whether designing a nursery, bedroom, playroom, childcare center, or classroom, our goal is to create a prepared environment that grows with the child and encourages learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

At MontiHaus, Montessori design is about more than creating a beautiful room. It is about creating an environment that quietly communicates:

"This space was created for you. You are capable. You are independent. You are free to discover."

Intentional Spaces. Inspired Childhoods.

"The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences."

Meet the founder

Alisha Hendrix

Founder & Lead Designer | MontiHaus Design Studio

With over 10 years of experience working within Montessori environments, Alisha Hendrix brings a unique understanding of how thoughtfully prepared spaces can influence the way children learn, explore, and grow.

Her passion for Montessori philosophy, child-centered environments, and beautiful, functional design inspired the creation of MontiHaus Design Studio — a design company dedicated to transforming children's spaces into environments that encourage independence, creativity, confidence, and discovery.

Alisha blends her Montessori experience with an eye for warm, timeless interiors to create spaces that are as beautiful as they are purposeful. From nurseries, bedrooms, and playrooms to childcare centers, classrooms, and complete Montessori learning environments, each project is intentionally designed around the needs of the children who will experience it.

At the heart of her work is a simple belief: a child's environment is more than a space — it is part of their education.

Through MontiHaus Design Studio, Alisha's mission is to help families, educators, and schools create intentional environments where children feel empowered to explore, learn, and thrive.

What drives us

Every child deserves a space that works for them.

Montessori philosophy teaches us that children thrive when their environment meets them where they are — not where we wish they were. A well-designed space reduces frustration, builds confidence, and makes learning feel natural.

We started MontiHaus because we kept seeing beautiful homes and classrooms that weren't working for the children in them. Too much stuff. Too high. Too chaotic. We knew there was a better way.

Today we work with families across the country and with schools and childcare operators who want their environments to reflect their values — warm, intentional, and genuinely child-centered.

How we work

Principles we bring to every project.

Child-led design

We design for the child's perspective — their height, their reach, their developmental stage. Every decision starts with the question: does this serve the child?

Intentional simplicity

Less is more in a Montessori environment. We help you edit, curate, and arrange so the space invites focus rather than overwhelm.

Natural materials

Wood, linen, cotton, and natural fibers. We source and recommend materials that are beautiful, durable, and safe for children.

Honest guidance

We tell you what will actually work for your child and your space — not just what looks good in a photo. Practical beauty is the goal.

Working together
